John MacArthur Study Bible

The overarching theme of this book and particularly the first 9 chapters is introduced—reverence for God (see v. 29; 2:5; 3:7; 8:13; 9:10; 14:26, 27; cf. also Job 28:28; Ps 34:11; Ac 9:31). See Introduction: Historical and Theological Themes. This reverential awe and admiring, submissive fear is foundational for all spiritual knowledge and wisdom (cf. 2:4–6; 9:10; 15:33; Job 28:28; Ps 111:10; Ecc 12:13). While the unbeliever may make statements about life and truth, he does not have true or ultimate knowledge until he is in a redemptive relationship of reverential awe with God. Note the progression here: 1) teaching about God; 2) learning about God; 3) fearing God; 4) knowing God; and 5) imitating God’s wisdom. The fear of the Lord is a state of mind in which one’s own attitudes, will, feelings, deeds, and goals are exchanged for God’s (cf. Ps 42:1).

“Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” ‭‭

My question for us today, is what will we do today for someone, because of the tremendous blessings we have been given, in Christ Jesus? I know my wife and I have several things in mind. May we freely give, as we have been given today.

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?”” ‭(Repentance was the believing unto salvation. Baptism, was an outward expression of the internal work of the Spirit!

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Lord, how awesome, that we have an advocate in Jesus, that we might come before your throne. There is no condemnation, for those who are in Christ Jesus! Thank you, Jesus!!!

3:12 So. In view of what God has done through Jesus Christ for the believer, Paul described the behavior and attitude God expects in response (vv. 12–17). chosen of God. This designates true Christians as those who have been chosen by God. No one is converted solely by his own choice, but only in response to God’s effectual, free, uninfluenced, and sovereign grace (see notes on Jn 15:16; Ro 8:29; 9:14–23; Eph 1:4; 2Th 2:13, 14; 2Ti 1:8, 9; 1Pe 1:1, 2; cf.
