Wisdom, does not come from mere knowledge, but is given to those who know and revere God. Just because someone is smart, doesn’t mean that they are wise! (See notes below)

1:7 The fear of the LORD.

The overarching theme of this book and particularly the first 9 chapters is introduced—reverence for God (see v. 29; 2:5; 3:7; 8:13; 9:10; 14:26, 27; cf. also Job 28:28; Ps 34:11; Ac 9:31).

This reverential awe and admiring, submissive fear is foundational for all spiritual knowledge and wisdom (cf. 2:4–6; 9:10; 15:33; Job 28:28; Ps 111:10; Ecc 12:13).

While the unbeliever may make statements about life and truth, he does not have true or ultimate knowledge until he is in a redemptive relationship of reverential awe with God.

Note the progression here:

1) teaching about God;

2) learning about God;

3) fearing God;

4) knowing God; and

5) imitating God’s wisdom.

The fear of the Lord is a state of mind in which one’s own attitudes, will, feelings, deeds, and goals are exchanged for God’s (cf. Ps 42:1).

Actions speak louder than words. Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only who delude themselves.

God wants you to speak to him, with a heart that seeks him, and wants to know him more. He does not want some ritualist repitition. He also wants you to know him. The Bible tells us all that we need to know about him. Meditate on his word and tell him what’s on your heart and the Holy Spirit will guide and teach you.

Father, let us not be distracted & deceived by the evil one. Help us to fix our eyes on Jesus. May we run the race with endurance, for the sake of the Gospel, that many might hear and believe!

Our senses, can be powerful tools of encouragement that lead to life, or dangerous weapons, that could possibly send someone to the pit of Tell. How will we use them today. May God’s Grace, point us in the right direction today!

If we hear, and don’t act upon our faith, what good is it? Is the Gospel, just for us to treasure in our hearts, and not to share with others? May it never be. It’s always about others.

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

May we pour out our hearts and souls to you today, Lord. May we confess, our weaknesses and failures before you. May yourself to us in a mighty way, not for our own selfish desires, but for your Glory! Amen.

Lord, may our hearts humbly bow before you, in persistent prayer. May we be alert, to the needs of others, so we might lift them up. Reveal yourself to us, through answered prayer, even though it may not be, what we wanted the outcome to be. May we always remember, that you care about us and love hearing our petitions.

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;

Help me Jesus, to take time today to listen, and look for you, in my day today. Show me, and reveal to me in a miraculous, and personal way, that you are the God of the universe. That you hold all things in your hands. That nothing happens without your knowledge, and approval, for your purposes. I humbly submit to you, and am listening and waiting upon you. Amen.

Want life?  Thirst for the Living God, who gives life now, and for all of eternity.  If you seek him with all your heart, you will find him.
